How South Carolina tax sales work
South Carolina is a redeemable deed state: the winning bidder receives a deed to the property, but the owner can still buy it back (redeem) for a set period by repaying the bid plus a statutory premium or penalty.
How the auction is won: Highest bid. Maximum interest or penalty: 3%, 6%, 9%, 12% of bid by quarter. Redemption period: 12 months.
