How Texas tax sales work

Texas is a redeemable deed state: the winning bidder receives a deed to the property, but the owner can still buy it back (redeem) for a set period by repaying the bid plus a statutory premium or penalty.

How the auction is won: Highest bid. Maximum interest or penalty: 25% year 1, 50% year 2 (homestead/ag); max 25% other. Redemption period: 2 years (homestead/ag); 180 days other.

Before you bid

  • Confirm the date, registration deadline and deposit on the official page.
  • Lists shrink as owners pay; check the final list the day before.
  • Research title, liens and occupancy, and talk to a local attorney.

Not legal advice. LienDesk is a research tool. This page summarizes public records and statutes for general education; it is not legal, tax or investment advice. Laws, dates and terms change, so confirm everything with the county, the trustee or sheriff running the sale, and a licensed attorney before you bid.
